Q: How much should a coxswain weigh? For high school the minimum is generally 100 lbs and for college/masters it's 110 for girls, 120 for guys. If you are under the minimum you will be forced to carry deadweight (usually sandbags). It is important to recognize that these are simply MINIMUM standards. They are NOT a MAXIMUM weight. While coxes are generally small and light, it is only one aspect of what you bring to the boat. if you are above the minimum, great. That means you don't have to carry sandbags. If you are carrying extra weight that can be lost in a healthy way, by all means exercise, eat healthy and drop some extra twinkie weight. But above all, protect your health. A healthy coxie who is over the weight minimum is 100 times more effective than a starving, depressed, low-energy coxie who can't concentrate. Stay healthy. Enjoy your coxing.
