Ok this is just a small timbit. I realized today that although within the rowing community..EVERYONE knows what a coxie is.....but in the outside world, NO ONE does. And im not saying that Im slow and never realized before but it totally hit me yesturday..... I was at dancing and we were all standing around talking about what we were gonna be for Hallowe'en and joking around I was like I'm gonna go as a coxie (cause it would be easy..and ppl at rowing woulda got it) And they all just kinda stared at me (they arent my normal class so they havent heard me talking about it 24/7 yet ;) ) But still I was scared..... :S the world is a scary place when it doesnt involve rowing...aahahaa and remember...

I understand your pain, Tasha! If I tell someone what I do in rowing and I say I cox, or I'm a coxie... they think it's some dirty word. It kills me to see no recognition for us :( hehe jj but still, we're a damn important part of the boat!! Everyone should know who us little people are!!

I actually thought about going as a coxie for hallowe'en as well, and I had pretty much the same experience as you. except for some crude comments made by a few members of the male gender who were around at the time, so I understand, and feel your pain! I think that we should all band together and all go as Coxies, so soon everyone will know all about the professional motivator and slave driver in the stern.

So even though I'm not going as a coxswain for Halloween, I am going as a boat. Yes, a cardboard Launch. 2 feet wide in the back, and 4 feet long. You'd all be very impressed.

I've gotten so used to ppl not knowing what a coxie is that I'm floored when they do!! I've been called the worst things too because ppl mess up the name: ***** tease...***** sitter...

yes, the world is a scary place even when it does involve rowing. I rowed today and let some other girl cox. In 1000 meters we almost crashed four times...finally we switched back. 'twas scary.

i always get "well what do you actually do? do you just sit there and shout?" yes i just sit and shout, i dont have to steer, make tactical plans during the race, motivate or coach at all!
