Well, my high school lost again, though not as bad this time only 13 to 9. Normally it's 25 to zero. My foot didn't hold up too well to anything this weekend. I did sleep a lot which was really nice.

The only bad part of the weekend was one of my best friends and her ?boyfriend? (their relationship is the weirdest thing don't even ask) using my house to cuddle because they don't want to be around their families. So here I am with the worst romantic history of anyone I know having to share my couch with them and him spending the whole time tickling her and her giggling (I tried my hardest not to gag). Luckily it's a big couch and I could turn up the home theater loud enough to drown them out.

So I hope you all had better weekends than I did. The guys had 6K's today. I guess it went okay. The fastest time was .. .

the fastest time was 20:50 flat. The discussion in the boat pretty much revolved around how low times would be by the end of the season. Chris just got back from an official recruiting visit to Brown, which he loved, and saw a lot of guys from ORU, one of our competitors. ORU graduated most of their guys I guess, and a lot of them went to Brown. The joke for the Charles is that we'll be starting in the middle of ORU, 'cause we start behind the actual ORU boat and in front of the 'ORU'/Brown boat. Chris came back bearing assurances that if we train hard now, Brown is beatable. I think we are all down for a little hard work.

As I provided emotional support (I'm staying quiet during the start of the season so I can find out what they like and get their trust before I go ape shit on their erg time.) for Jamie, (JV stroke last spring) Pat (Varsity stroke last spring now I'm guessing seven for fall) was finishing his erg and as he told me later, yelled for me to be there. I felt horrible to not have been there for him, and learned the importance of staggering ergs so as one guy finishes I can go help another one finish, or at least get them all erging in one well vented spot. I almost choked when I walked into the erg room today.

Today we were supposed to row a "Varsityish" boat and a "JVish" boat. It wasn't exactly what I had pictured. The boats were little less mixed than last week, I had five candidates and the other boat had three. Our ninth candidate, Evan who rowed bow in the boat last spring, has gotten mono and doesn't know when he's getting back. Last year he had pneumonia, as well as a few other rowers from sharing water bottles, now I'm hoping that they don't go around kissing each other's girlfriends. So as far as I know, we have eight cadidates, but we seat race on Friday of this week and Tuesday of next week so we'll see what happens.

And to end this lovely story today, I have another 'girly' embarrassing moment. I was wearing mascara today because I had to take my picture for my school ID, which turned out very well, but I forgot to take it off (the mascara that is) before I went to practice. The water being choppy and all splashed my face and got my hands wet like it always does. Without thinking about it (this is why I don't wear makeup I smear it everywhere when I rub my eyes) I wiped my eve to get something out and without my knowledge smeared my mascara all over my face. Of course no one bothered to tell me politely, they had to laugh secretively in front of me (stern pair). Once we got on the dock they told me I looked savage like a football player (just the look I was going for) and then Chris came after me like your mother does when you've got chocolate ice cream on your face. He licked his thumb and then proceeded to clean the mascara off my face.

Don't you love the maternal instinct in guys?

Never forget to fight.

P.S. I have two questions:

1. What about crew attracts people who have no desire to work hard at anything other than getting drunk, getting guys, and their looks? (most annoying novie girls at least in my team)

2. On a less pissed off note, Does anyone have good ideas on how to brace yourself in a M2? I'm having the damndest time trying to brace without breaking the speed coach cradle off.
